Barca lunar 2

Lunar Boat 2 · Raw Earth Sculptures and Nopal Cacti*

Oaxaca, México 2016-2017

LUNAR BOAT 2
In this second version a different kind of boat will be anchored on the earth and surrounded by an Opuntia Cacti landscape.
The LUNAR BOAT 2 will be navigating in a dry land as the previous BOAT. Shall the water to be found in this landscape the water that remains in the leaves and fruit of the cactus only?

The origin myth of the foundation of Mexico Tenochtitlan –the capital city of what later was considered the Aztec Empire– is symbolized by the fight/encounter of the Eagle, representing the solar forces and the Nopal Cactus that represents the Lunar energy.
Both energies meet in the same point through the drama of the fight to be set up in balance.

The rammed earth boats will be protected with a cover made of iron and copper.
Those metals represent the balance performed with two alchemic elements –Mars and Venus–. Iron and copper represent also antagonistic forces, the dramatic fight/encounter between the Spanish Culture and the Aztec Culture.

Are those cultural energies, those cultural traditions, after 500 years finally in balance?
That is still the question.
