Saggital Boat

Oaxaca, México 2017

For decades, archaeologists have referred to monuments built for the purpose of commemorating civil or religious events, as “steles”.
Not all the Menhir like megaliths within these civilizations were necessarily commemorative objects.
There are certain steles in the pre-Columbian cities of Monte Albán -in the state of Oaxaca- and Xochicalco -in the state of Morelos- that had a different purpose.
Recently studies have proven that some of these megaliths were measuring instruments. They were used to measure shadows at noon throughout the whole year. The triangles drawn by the stone and its shadows were the Pythagorean basis for the construction of all the religious and civil buildings.

Saggital Boat is an allegorical expression of the measurement within time and space during the infinite journeys of navigation of our common spaceship: the Earth.
